Weekly Wrap-Up

“You are kidding yourself if you think you can be one of the highest-taxed states in the nation, have a reputation for being anti-business — and have a rosy economic future.”

The New York Post features this Andrew Cuomo quote daily on its opinion page now that the Governor has started to hedge on his promise to not raise taxes (which Shaun Marie has blogged about this week).

Now it seems that Cuomo has a growing roster of Republican allies who share his willingness to at least consider (as they so innocently put it) a tax increase.

Mark my words: Once these RINO’s “consider” taking more of other people’s money so they can spend it on bigger government, it won’t be long before they wholeheartedly embrace the idea.

What do you think: Will Cuomo and his Big Government allies (Democrat AND Republican) raise taxes in 2012? Vote today in our new Weekly Poll.

The Post also wants to know whether Cuomo will keep his word on hydro-fracking and gain control of the special interests within his administration that are trying to derail the process (and kill off much needed jobs in the process).

Meanwhile President Obama brought his campaign to New York this week, on one of the busiest nights of the Christmas season.

The result? Chaos and countless inconvenienced, outraged citizens... which actually seems to be the result of most of Obama’s decisions.

Want to increase your outrage level for the weekend? Check out this story of your tax dollars (and Obama’s stimulus spending spree) hard at work.

So who will be taking on the President in 2012? Right now (but subject to change at a moment’s notice) it’s Gingrich vs. Romney. Charles Krauthammer and John Podhoretz both weigh in on what this means for the presidential election.

Do you think the media might have talked about a gaffe like this had it been President George W. Bush talking about the “English” embassy?

Have a great weekend!

The Heritage Foundation wants to know if Obama will protect religious rights?

Did you know Obama has cut taxes since he has been in office? Here is the video of him reminding us of that little known fact. And this is what he said last night in NYC: "this administration has done more in terms of the security of the state of Israel than any previous administration." Sen. Leiberman's response.

Will he tell us next week that he has created more jobs than any other administration when the weekly jobless numbers jumped again?

Good advice for the President: Mr. Cooperman's open letter.

More on Sen. Gillibrand's faux fix.

Larry Kudlow: With a little help from our fed.

Who would benefit from the "millionaires' tax"? Hint: who is pushing for it? More from Steve Malanga.

We said it yesterday, maybe new taxes. And, maybe casino's. (Just ask New Jersey and Las Vegas how they are doing there.) SPENDING is the problem! New streams only lets spending continue. Don't betray us, Governor. The NY Post Editorial is as concerned as we are.

Judge Andrew Napolitano writes about his take on S. 1867-Senator Carl Levin's bill.

Daniel Henninger makes the case for ending public campaign financing.

Will Governor Cuomo cave on his fiscal promises? The NY Post Editorial Page will keep his feet to the fire, but will that be enough? We, the beleaguered taxpayers must also make him keep his word. Articles like this and the analysis by The Torch should be a waring to all of us that we must be vigilant despite how the Governor tries to calm our fears. He tried to walk back the article, but didn't convince me that there is no need to worry. After all, many are believing class warfare is acceptable, just listen to Obama and the OWSers'.

Did the stimulus work as well as stated? The latest CBO estimates says NO.

Be prepared if they knock on your door. California taxed the rich and fell even further behind. The problem is spending; government is too big and spending must be cut. Next year, election year for the Legislature, will be difficult. New York must become business friendly, employing more people is the best answer. Bring jobs to New York, and it can begin with hydrofracking, which will have immediate benefits, the science is there to make it safe, so let it begin.

The Heritage Foundation wants Obama's big union onslaught stopped.

If we don't make serious changes the unrest taking place in Europe will be here, we already see the beginning of it in the OWS movement.

Wednesdays with Walter E. Williams.

Bonus Thomas Sowell article, another must read!

The Wall Street Journal Editorial today opines on what Governor Cuomo said on Talk 1300 AM regarding the funding for rebuilding the Tappen Zee Bridge and are correct in being concerned. All New Yorker's should be concerned. Listen to E. J. McMahon discuss the editorial with Fred Dicker here (Click on the Nov. 29, 2011 pod broadcast, E. J begins after the news break @10:30). E. J. is also quoted in this WSJ piece on future ideas percolating in Albany.

In the market for a new car, better read this and this.

Okay, Cong. Pelosi, we know most of what is in it and we still want Obamacare repealed.

Rich Lowry looks into his crystal ball and sees 1948.

Krauthammer's Take.

We were not the only ones happy about Cong. Frank's retirement.

If you are still supporting the National Popular Vote scheme, read this.

NYS Supreme Court Judge gives the okay for lawsuit to go forward, since the case involves how same sex marriage was passed, we will follow it very closely.

Will Assemblyman Boyland walk away again?

Tuesdays with Thomas Sowell.

Monday Bombshell: Congressman Barney Frank Ends Congressional Career. I personally believe that at the very minimum it is one less vote for runaway spending. Let us know what you think in our weekly poll question.

Congressman Frank's retirement came as a surprise, the fact that Eliot Spitzer supports the OWSer's is not.

Assemblyman Ortiz is at it again. Why do some, if not most, elected officials believe they can use tax dollars to impose what they believe is best for society? Government does not need to make every decision for everyone, in fact we were a much better country when government kept out of our everyday lives. Instead of more mandates, we need mandate relief to control spending. We also need to know that Gov. Cuomo and the Legislature will not raise taxes.

New York ranks 34 in 24/7's Best and Worst Run States in America.

In case you missed this NY Post Editorial over the weekend, it is a must read, on Metastasizing Medicaid. Today's Editorial is also enlightening and they keep up the pressure on NYC Comptroller John Liu to resign. The NY Post isn't enamored with Albany's DA either.

Michael Barone has an excellent column on Entitlements, Not Tax Cuts, Widen the Wealth Gap.

Mark Steyn on More, More, More.

Human Events, Andrew G. Bostom, writes on the differences between Mitt and Newt specifically on Jihad and Sharia, well worth the read.

The Heritage Foundation on Obama keeps turning his back on jobs.

Wouldn't it be nice if it could be done, however, we all know it is not possible.

Just think about what else could have been accomplished with this money.

More bad news on NY's economic front. If the pension fund continues to lose money, you will be paying a lot more in taxes, all the more reason to create a new Tier that is based on defined contribution, rather than the current defined benefit.

In case you missed the debate last night, here is a pretty fair and accurate analysis of it. Jonah Goldberg opines on the debate. Human Event's, John Hayward, does also.

No one knows who you truly are when you try to be all things to all people, and we all know the reality is that no one can be all things to all people.....are you listening Sen. Gillibrand?

Is it possible the Bowles-Simpson Plan could be adopted? Dropping the corporate rate to 26% from the current 35% would be a good beginning to get the economy back on track.

The WSJ has an article by Glenn Hubbard that says it is still possible to cut spending. Good ideas for starters, I'm certain we can think of more. Another way to save tax payers money and lives; no more investing in companies like Geron.

November is National Adoption Month.

Bonus Thomas Sowell article on the "Failure or Success" of the Super Committee.

Wednesdays with Walter E. Williams: Should the Rich Be Condemned?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.
Thank a Veteran for your Freedom.
We'll be back on Monday.

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

As anticipated, the Super Committee did not reach any agreement on cutting the deficit. For some analysis read this, this, this, this and this.

Will you personally feel the effect in January? Or will Congress do what it always does?

E. J. McMahon isn't as dire as Gov. Cuomo is on the failure of the Super Committee.

William McGurn writes how government should really stay out of soup kitchens at Thanksgiving. (Personally, government has too much time on its hands and gets involved in far too many things.)

The Washington Post writes about the dificult balance between government and housing finance. If the government did not make unreasonable demands and had not interfered, taxpayers would have a lot more of their own money. Again, government is too big with too much time on its hands.

More on government interference in private business.

There is no doubt, the Washington Examiner is correct. We must take control of our Country, it is unfortunate that we can't do it sooner. Especially when we have a President that says things like this.

NY's AG, Eric Schneiderman, wants more power, isn't that thought chilling.

Very interesting article on crime statistics in 24/7. How soon before the bleeding heart liberals try to debunk it?

Have you read what former Democratic Representative Artur Davis said regarding voter fraud.

Will you watch the debate tonight? (CNN needs the ratings boost!)

Another great Tuesday (column) with Thomas Sowell.
