Normally I save Thomas Sowell for the end, but this column is a must read. The more light shined on the proposed mosque, the more we are learning about the backers. Regarding Mayor Bloomberg's beliefs that we should not investigate donations to a religious organizations....well what about the claim from the potential builders that it is more than a mosque? And one more question to the Mayor: how did a waiter have enough cash to become a very junior "Donald Trump"? (If he made his "seed money" as a waiter, I'm quitting my day job!)

Weekly Wrap-Up

President Obama may be on vacation, but we’re not...

I wish the President would take a permanent vacation from his tax increase agenda, which The Heritage Foundation exposes quite thoroughly here.

Could it be that some liberals in Washington are coming to their senses and realizing that now is not the time to raise taxes on anybody?

What are the odds that New York’s Senators might be on the right side of this issue? Here’s my guess.

What do you think – is now the time to raise taxes? Or should the tax cuts that President Bush signed into law in 2001 and 2003 be extended? Vote now in our new Weekly Poll.

Taxes put New York in the news this week, specifically the “bagel tax” that is absurd, any way you slice it. The Weekly Standard directed us to this post from Reason Online.

The Heritage Foundation explains how the bagel tax shows the flaws in the value-added tax that the Obama Administration and the liberals in Washington adore.

Is Mayor Bloomberg taking a vacation from pro-mosque zealotry? He’s hosting a fundraiser for Harry Reid, who opposes the mosque at Ground Zero and is therefore (according to Bloomberg) “un-American.”

More New York in the news – Gov. Paterson embarrassing us while he still can...

Have a great weekend!

Not good news for Andy as the NY Times writes about his time at HUD.

The Speaker of the Assembly seems to have his priorities in the wrong place, again!

When it comes to the Legislature, some things never change...for the better.

Apparently many states hide their budget deficits.

Baseline spending by the Feds -- $4.4 T in 31 months -- only adds to the fiscal morass in the states. Want proof? LA spent how much on one new school?

Weekly Wrap-up

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Ground Zero mosque is a terrible idea, any way you look at it.

As The Washington Times notes, “The Ground Zero Mosque project already has failed in its intended outreach mission, and its backers now seem to be committed to alienating as many Americans as possible.”

I want to make sure everyone who reads our blog has a chance to weigh in on this question, so I’ve made this the focus of our Weekly Poll. It’s very straightforward: Do you want to see the Cordoba House mosque built at Ground Zero? Make sure to give your opinion today.

The mosque has been in the news all week – especially with the Conservative Party’s new ad that’s running across the state – but unfortunately we’ve seen plenty of other terrible ideas on display over the past several days.

Political incompetency – a very bad idea, but nothing new here in New York

Obamacare – a dreadful idea,
as even the White House now acknowledges. If this health care “reform” needed to be fixed or improved, shouldn’t that have been done during the actual legislative process?

Trying to spend our way out of a recovery –
not a good idea.

Another bad idea: Policies that tax and over-regulate businesses, and
discourage job creation...

Having a great weekend – that’s a good idea, and I hope you will.

The Heritage Foundation dissects Treasury Secretary Geithner's fundamental reform of our nation's housing policies.

The proposed Cordoba Mosque is dominating the news. What really amazes me is how totally dumb Speaker Pelosi is at times. The Speaker believes in the First Amendment when it comes to the mosque, then contradicts herself by saying that those who oppose its being built on the same site that debris from the flight crashed through the roof, destroying two floors, and remains closed to this day, should be investigated. (Selective support of the First Amendment, until she back tracks.)

One World Illusion. Why another is opposed to the mosque, printed in the Washington Post.

The New Yorkers for Growth announces "W.F.P. = O- U- T- OUT!" which the group will roll out to New Yorkers between now and November 2nd, Election Day. The campaign will include web videos, social networking, and paid media. The 'W(orking). F(amilies). P(arty).' identifies candidates to remove from office due to their support of higher taxes, higher spending, and higher debt in New York State. We will keep you posted or you can learn more at the New Yorkers for Growth website.

Fannie and Freddie continue to be a major part of the housing problem and the administration continues to interfere.

The President still doesn't understand most Americans. In California, he is touting his progressive political triumphs, while his poll numbers continue to plummet and most of this is before Friday's monumental disregard of what most Americans believe is the right thing to do at Ground Zero.

The Washington Times opines on Obama's mosque mess, as well as the NY Post .

Speaking of messes, the WSJ writes how states can no longer dodge the budget ax.

Term Limits is back in the news in New York City.

If you only have time to read one article, this is one of Thomas Sowell's best.

Monday, August 16, 2010

If you missed the news over the weekend, the Cordoba Mosque was and is the topic of discussion. Friday evening, Michael Gormley of the Associate Press, broke the story that the Conservative Party would begin a statewide advertisement campaign to "stop the mosque". Little did anyone know that the President would be using his bully pulpit to support the mosque at the same time. We are clear in our intention, the President is not. First he spoke about the Constitutional right, then he questioned the "wisdom" then his flacks wanted to make his remarks perfectly clear. The WSJ on the Mosque. The NY Post is reporting that HAMAS wants the Mosque built at ground zero.

Why is Sen. Schumer silent? We know Sen. Gillibrand is silent because Chuckie has been.

The Heritage Foundation on Obamanomics. More on Obama's health care mess.

Could it be? Will the State really begin to collect taxes from the Indian Reservations?

Whoa, Mr. Attorney General, you haven't won yet.

Congressman Rangel...your days are numbered.

Weekly Wrap-Up

This week we saw some of the worst New York politics has to offer: Charlie Rangel and Andrew Cuomo. Here is The New York Post on our two-faced gubernatorial hopeful...

Do you believe Andrew Cuomo is being less than honest when he talks about opposing corruption and “politics as usual” in New York? Give you opinion in our Weekly Poll.

Political correctness continues to run amuck at Ground Zero, and here The Weekly Standard offers a round-up of the latest commentary on the insulting plan to place a mosque at the place where thousands were killed in the name of Islam...

Fortunately Charles Krauthammer weighs in with reason and clarity...

The Washington Times says: “President Obama says Islam has always been part of America, which raises the question, does the president know something about American history that we don’t?”

The Times is on a roll today, with a commentary and editorial on “justice delayed for military voters,” which is a problem here in New York and across the nation....

... and also with an excellent (yet unnerving) editorial on Obama’s economic tragedy.

Which leads us to perhaps the best American politics has to offer right now: Paul Ryan, with his sensible, practical take on America’s fiscal crisis and what we can do about it...

Have a great weekend!

$20 Billion in interest alone! All one has to do is read this to understand that spending is the problem. And it doesn't appear that overspending is about to be curtailed. Unemployment rising again. Do Democrats really feel your pain?

Congressman Paul Ryan has some ideas to reduce spending. More on Congressman Ryan.

Judge Walker disregards voters again. Judge Walker we live in a Republic: " a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote."

Fox News on TEA Party and the Conservative Party. More on August 15 at 11:00 AM according to the article.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Congressman Rangel expects Democratic Leaders to pay his legal bills...is he kidding? Time to retire the Congressman, after all, if he takes the wrong letterhead by mistake, what else is he doing by mistake? Is it just a mistake to have 4 rent controlled apartments? Apparently, none of this bothers Andy, as he is planning on attending the Congressman "birthday" party tonight...if I were truly planning on changing the way things get done in Albany, the last place I would plan on attending would be a fundraiser for a man who is so "forgetful". Good Bye, Good Guy, Charlie.

Massachusetts Health Care in the news. Since this is the Summer of Bailouts, do you think the gentleman suing Massachusetts will get a bailout?

The Obsolescence of Barack Obama. If there is any money left in your wallet, Obama has more plans for it.

More on the Cordoba Mosque on Hannity tonight. An absolute must watch video on the Cordoba Mosque between Bill O'Reilly and Muslim Leader Raheel Raza.

John Faso endorsed Rick Lazio. Read his complete letter here.

More on the Cordoba Mosque, here, here, here and here . Differences between Andy and Duffy already?

(All New Yorkers should be thanking Rick Lazio for shining the light on the Cordoba Mosque and questioning where the money is coming from as well as who the person is who is trying so hard to build Cordoba Mosque.)

Chairman Long on the future of the Conservative Party.

Conservative U. S. Senate hopeful, Jay Townsend, questions Senate Majority Leader hopeful, Chuck Schumer on a few things.

Federal Government set to take more of your hard earned money today to pay off states who cannot control spending, guess they think it is okay to encourage an alcoholic to have another drink.

Thomas Sowell on Cheering Immaturity

Weekly Wrap-Up

I have two words to describe this week: “Too bad.”

An astounding 60% of New Yorkers oppose having a mosque placed at Ground Zero.

The message they’re hearing is,
“Too bad.”

A majority of New Yorkers support getting tough on illegal immigration.

The federal government says, “Too bad” – especially if you are fond of ideas like representative democracy, checks-and-balances and the rule of law.

Want to see less Big Government spending here in New York and in Washington? “Too bad,” say Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand. Tell us what you think about this newest Big Government bailout in our Weekly Poll.

Our fearless leaders chimed in on tax relief, as well. Big surprise:
They’re opposed.

Do you oppose gay marriage, much like the vast majority of Americans and even (
supposedly) our ultra-liberal President?

Too bad, says a judge in California.

Have a great weekend.

Social Security is in the RED, anyone surprised?

E. J. McMahon on the state budget.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Michael Goodwin to Mayor Bloomberg: Don't Play the Bigotry Card! From Dorothy Rabinowitz, writing in today WSJ, on the possible building of the Mosque, part of which states "Dr. Zuhdi Jasser—devout Muslim, physician, former U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy—says there is every reason to investigate the center's funding under the circumstances. Of the mosque so near the site of the 9/11 attacks, he notes "It will certainly be seen as a victory for political Islam."

One state speaks out on Obamacare. As Betsy McCaughey reminds us, the fight is long from being over.

Another birdbrain idea from a NY Member of Congress. How your stimulus money is being spent.

Let's get the Gulf back to work.

Cause for concern....hmmm, no problem with changing Constitution on this, but just mentioning looking at this, has the Left/Progressives crying foul!

Part II of Thomas Sowell's Democrats bite Democrats.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

The ACLU has crossed many lines, but this one, puts all Americans in harms way!

Time to get rid of Fannie and Freddie.

Good news from Virginia, and New York's Attorney General, Governor Wannabe, does nothing to protect New Yorkers. More on Virginia's first round win. Wouldn't it be nice to know your Attorney General was looking out for your interest....instead of his own. The Heritage Foundation on Virginia's win.

Dan Senor takes a page from Pope John Paul, II. More on the symbolism of the Mosque.

No details yet, but be certain, it will hurt your wallet.

It must be Tuesday and Thomas Sowell has words of wisdom.

Taxpayers continue to be under assault at every level of government. Steve Malanga on the Muni-Bond Debt Bomb; Heritage Foundation on Its about the Spending, Speaker, Lame Duck Tax Hike Planned in Human Events, George Marlin on the NY State Budget-- Nothing but Blue Smoke and Mirrors and in NYC you are paying $5.7 M for food. Question to Mayor Bloomberg: If you understand this, why do you spend so much? If voters fail to make real changes in November, there will be no stopping the spending.

Obama may see the writing on the wall.

So Long, Middle Class and Nanny State Blues.
