Lest we Forget. Eight years ago our lives changed forever, our prayers are for our Nation and those who suffered the loss of family and friends.

As expected, President Obama, gave up lip service in his Wednesday night address. Is the man deaf or so arrogant that he believes it is his way or no way? http://tinyurl.com/m5wgln

Quote of the day:
Have you ever noticed how statists are constantly 'reforming' their own handiwork? Education reform. Health-care reform. Welfare reform. Tax reform. The very fact that they're always busy 'reforming' is an implicit admission that they didn't get it right the first 50 times.

Tonight is President Obama 29th attempt to convince the American people that he knows best. If he dares to bring the late Sen. Ted Kennedy into his speech, I really think I'll have to buy a new television tomorrow! Former Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey http://tinyurl.com/mzbctb has the right idea in her column.

And if he really does this http://tinyurl.com/lt3uaa his poll numbers will continue to drop.

This won't work either: http://tinyurl.com/lbpuxg, nor will this http://tinyurl.com/mxvxjf .

Maggie Gallagher has another good article on "gay marriage rage" http://tinyurl.com/kll6le The New York State Senate, returning tomorrow, is eager to pass same sex marriage, which has already passed the Assembly. Remind your State Senator at 518-455-2800, that traditional marriage is "settled" law!

Quote of the Day

"Obama fancies himself tribune of the people, spokesman for the grass roots, harbinger of a new kind of politics from below that would upset the established lobbyist special-interest order of Washington. Yet faced with protests from a real grass-roots movement, his party and his supporters called it a mob -- misinformed, misled, irrational, angry, unhinged, bordering on racist. All this while the administration was cutting backroom deals with every manner of special interest -- from drug companies to auto unions to doctors -- in which favors worth billions were quietly and opaquely exchanged" -- Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer.

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day Weekend and spent some quality time with their families and friends and thanking a Veteran for our safety.

In case you missed the news release at mid-night on Saturday, Van Jones did resign. But the issue is far from being over. http://tinyurl.com/lyaqcy

Our economy is lagging behind Switzerland http://tinyurl.com/mxm8yz and this is long before they force universal health care on Americans. Do they not learn from the countries that have UHC? France is now reporting problems: http://tinyurl.com/lfm9dn If you only have time to read one article today, please make it this one: http://tinyurl.com/mp2vad Do not be fooled by the "compromise" of a "trigger" in health care reform! Roll Call is reporting that the trial lawyers’ lobby, worried that tort reform could become a bargaining chip in the health care debate, is lashing out this week against efforts to include medical malpractice limits in health care reform bills.

You cannot have meaningful health care reform with out tort reform! We acknowledge that compromise is essential in getting legislation passed and most times compromise works. However, putting a "trigger" and not having tort reform is not a compromise...it is capitulation!

The House already has and the Senate has to move legislation to raise the debt ceiling to above $12T, http://tinyurl.com/naqsks BEFORE health care is decided. Interesting what Senator Obama said on the Senate Floor when Dubya raised the debt ceiling.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Labor Day weekend is here, and we all probably need a break after trying to keep up with Rep. Charlie Rangel’s ethics shenanigans. Where to begin?

The National Legal and Policy Center is a good place to go for a look at all of Rangel’s past and present scandals:
http://tinyurl.com/nzcmvh

This story is getting plenty of coverage across the state, from New York City (
http://tinyurl.com/kpncl6) to Buffalo, where there are calls for Charlie’s resignation: http://tinyurl.com/lyvksm.

Not that Charlie thinks anybody is “smart enough” to question him:
http://tinyurl.com/mumrg6

The Wall Street Journal (
http://tinyurl.com/nkqo9l) calls Rep. Rangel “The Absentminded Chairman.” How does a person “forget” that he has millions of dollars here and there?

Apparently Rep. Rangel’s staff is as forgetful as he is when it comes to their personal finances:
http://tinyurl.com/lbzkg5

Don’t forget that Rep. Rangel isn’t just a huckster and a fraud – he’s also a hypocrite. He helps write the tax laws he refuses to follow – and he’s even proposing new penalties against people who make mistakes on their tax forms:
http://tinyurl.com/no7cpw.

So how will Charlie try to “wrangle” his way out of this? By giving money to the right people, of course – namely, to the Democrats on the House Ethics Committee... now known as “Charlie’s Angels” (
http://tinyurl.com/kvjpbh).

I guess Rep. Rangel remembers how much money is in his PAC bank account when it’s time to hand out contributions.

Rangel has also been quite generous to Rep. Mike McMahon of Staten Island, who is now under pressure to give the tainted money back to Charlie:
http://tinyurl.com/lddjqv

Rep. Rangel is also following the Paterson Strategy by playing the race card. The Post wanted my thoughts on this. Read the article to see what I had to say:
http://tinyurl.com/mefgxo

So far, Charlie is in the clear – even though President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised a new era of ethics and accountability in Washington. Right now, Pelosi won’t say a word:
http://tinyurl.com/mjvscb

And the Democrats are standing by their man, too – for now:
http://tinyurl.com/lf3wkx.

What do you think about the Charlie Rangel saga? Should he stay or should he go? That’s the question in this week’s poll.

Rep. Rangel is probably counting on President Obama to take back the spotlight next week with yet another primetime speech next week. Until then, let’s all enjoy some baseball, football or tennis this weekend. Enjoy the holiday, and check back here next week!

Well isn't this a surprise... http://tinyurl.com/mefgxo As Chairman Long stated in the article "Rangel is playing the race card. It's clear that the congressman is trying to galvanize the minority community that this is 'us against them.' It's going to backfire. A majority of people will see through this."

Is Congressman Rangel trying to influence his peers? http://tinyurl.com/kvjpbh
The Washington Post, certainly not considered a conservative paper, says it's about time for Charlie to "step aside as Chairman of Ways and Means" http://tinyurl.com/lglxr6

Be prepared for an increase in property taxes: http://tinyurl.com/n6w3qy

The New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms has an article on the 23rd CD: http://tinyurl.com/nnkxvq

And more on the one issue that has dominated the last six months, or according to some the last 40 years. (The Gipper does not want to win this one) http://tinyurl.com/m9zlyk and The Politico has an article about "selling out doctors to pay off trial lawyers" http://tinyurl.com/nvvgmx and Ann Coulter has her third article on Liberal Lies About National Health Care: http://tinyurl.com/n2dpj9 And if all of these articles don't convince you that any bill that is pending goes to far to change our health care system, read this one from the Telegraph.Co.UK http://tinyurl.com/nyap8o

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

The NY Post Editorial is calling on Rangel to be fired, http://tinyurl.com/nu3erq but who will do the firing? His constituents? Hardly. May we remind Speaker Pelosi of her promise to have the most ethical Congress ever, what is she waiting for?

How will new Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor cast her decision on what will be a landmark case? http://tinyurl.com/mxejem

More on the 23rd Congressional race: Dede owns stock in her brother's company http://tinyurl.com/mgg9fd and here http://tinyurl.com/ko3zec that owes thousands in back taxes despite her distancing herself from the company. And just in case you missed this one: http://tinyurl.com/n7xl7y

Positive words from The Hill http://tinyurl.com/kpgcf3 regarding our candidate, Doug Hoffman.

Michelle Malkin has a link to Bill Ayers speech from 2006 http://tinyurl.com/m53dnp to remind us of his radicalism and his ties to Obama. Good background piece to prepare parents for Barack Obama address to schoolchildren on September 8. http://tinyurl.com/nsfqfg As one pundit suggested, it may be a good day to keep your children home from school.

Good article in WSJ by Congressman Tom Coburn: http://tinyurl.com/n3weh2

Dennis Prager's article "The Bigger the Government, the Smaller the Citizen" http://tinyurl.com/nmd5k8 is also a good read.

Ken Blackwell writes "We are in danger of repealing Reagan’s greatest achievement. Hundreds of millions of people in eastern and central Europe owe their freedom to Reagan’s inspired leadership in the eighties. Today, seventy years after the war that brought death and despotism to this vast region, their freedoms are increasingly threatened." http://tinyurl.com/lgm3ef
So are ours under this administration.

Drop VP Cheney a note of thanks for speaking out http://tinyurl.com/laa9pg
And Ralph Peters also: http://tinyurl.com/led4of

While we are thanking people who consistently speak out for our safety, we can add Ambassador John R. Bolton who also has a column today in the WSJ. http://tinyurl.com/qqljgf In fact, you will be able to thank him in person on October 29 at our Fall Reception! Watch your mail for your invitation which will be coming soon.
