Charles Krauthammer on VAT.

State Attorney Generals are not the only ones suing.

Michael Goodwin has a very good analysis of NYC's spending problems, unfortunately they are not limited to the NYC budget. The same can be said about Albany.

If any one wants to know where they can save money, fraud screams out. The Assembly Democrats certainly are not considering how to save money with this absurd idea. Classic case of do what I say, not what I do. The "Tax Man" wants you even if you do not live in NYS. NYS Senate Democrats are being exposed in Human Events. And the Sacramento Bee.

Does George Will have the answer to immigration arguments?

Health care reform fallout; here, here, here, and Sen. Schumer thinks what? Just shows you how out of touch he is with the American people.

Weekly Wrap-Up

After President Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi pulled legislative and political tricks that would embarrass Hugo Chavez (and that, in fact, thrilled Fidel Castro as Shaun Marie pointed out yesterday), health care became the big story of the week.

The new conservative buzzword is “repeal.” That’s what most voters want.
President Obama - who doesn’t even seem to really know what’s in the bill, or how it will work – has even been so arrogant as to dare Republicans to go for it. This could very well turn out to be his “Mission Accomplished” moment – or at least it will be if conservatives play their cards right.

So how do we do it? Unfortunately, our very own New York is a terrifying example of what happens when politicians spend like there’s no tomorrow
. But there are many takes on how conservatives can turn back ObamaCare. Let’s look at a few...

First off: Rep. Paul Ryan bravely ventures into the enemy territory of The New York Times to offer some strategies.

Former Massachusetts Governor and Presidential contender Mitt Romney – who has some unfortunate experience in government meddling with health care
– is pushing to elect conservatives who will repeal ObamaCare.

Rich Lowry at National Review was making the case for repeal before the bill was even forced into law – and his take on the matter is still a must-read
.

At the Weekly Standard, Bill Kristol makes the case for repeal
– and for keeping it simple.

And keeping it simple is the strategy already put in place by Sen. Jim DeMint and his conservative allies in Washington.

Rep. Mike Pence keeps it short and sweet in his take on health care repeal over at The Wall Street Journal.

What will you be doing to support the full repeal of ObamaCare? That's the topic of this week's poll.

Another important question: Can it be done? A small story here in New York that’s not even connected to the health care debate gives me hope...

In a mini-repeal of sorts, Rep. Ed Towns was forced to withdraw an underhanded earmark after questions were raised about who would benefit besides a Towns staffer. When people have the facts, and when politicians feel the pressure, anything can happen.

At the least, this is a great example of why, in a perfect world, New York would “repeal” all of the scoundrels we’ve sent to Washington this November.

Have a great weekend!

So why did the drafters of the HCR bill exempt themselves?

Lazio joins the growing calls for New York to join the AGs challenging HCR.

Castro cheers Obamacare.

Social Security in trouble again (and we are at the very beginning of baby boomers applying).

Is the agreement in START undermining our nuclear security?

New Yorkers beware, the first state to legalize "medical marijuana" is getting ready to legalize all marijuana.

File this under, when will politicians learn?

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

In the New York Governor's race, one candidate seems to have a problem remembering the facts: Levy praises Cuomo and 'forgets' he was on the WFP line while his answers on a WFP questionnaire puts him at odds with conservative principles.

The Democrat controlled Assembly is looking to restore budget cuts and looking at new revenues sources.

This on top of what Washington is socking taxpayers with. Of course, some are exempt!!!
What would expect when rules are just made up in Congress. And Con. Dingell says Obamacare will eventually control the people. Think you won't be effected by the taxes, think again.

But New York's democratic controlled government at the state level, that is rapidly running out of money due (in large part) to the high cost of medicaid and will be further damaged by Obamacare is silent while other states take the necessary steps to protect themselves. Where is Governor Paterson? Attorney General Cuomo?

It may be law, but the fight is not over.

The financial damage NY will incur due to Obamacare

But don't worry about New York's financial problems, because the Senate Democrats believe "medical marijuana" will "plug the gap". (Guess "medical marijuana" isn't really about medicine anymore...then again was it ever?)

On March 22, 1765 the British government passed the Stamp Act. It was the forth major tax imposed on the colonists (Quartering Act -1765; Sugar Act -1764 and the Currency Act - 1764), by October, 9 of the 13 colonies united and complained about "taxation without representation". The British government repealed the Stamp Act, but the die was cast by Americans who wanted to be free. The Sons of Liberty began in 1765, in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed and in September of 1787 the U.S. Constitution became the law of the land on the first Wednesday in March 1789 after New Hampshire became the ninth state to approve it.

We may have lost the battle in Congress on Sunday, but Americans will not lose its freedom again. We will continue to do what we have always done; fight for freedom against tyranny especially when that tyranny is our own elected officials.

The Heritage Foundation calls for Repeal. Virginia will sue; Florida and 7 other states also. Texas is ready to roll. Where is New York?

Gingrich says the Bill will not stand. The NY Post reminds us that no new government program ever reduces government spending. Truth is a casualty in the final push.

More coverage on the Health Care morass.

One of the biggest disappointment: Congressman Bart Stupak.

Democratic sources indicate that the NYS Senate has the same regard for its citizens as their counterparts in Washington have for theirs. Lame Duck Paterson is calling for taxes.

November can not come soon enough. Good News in today's Siena Poll "Lazio Starts Fight for Republican Nomination with Huge Lead over Levy" As you know, the State Executive Committee of the Conservative Party met on Saturday and recommended to the full state committee the nomination of Rick Lazio for Governor.

Weekly Wrap-UP

If our Founding Fathers were alive, they would be aghast with the shenanigans going on in Washington, DC!

"[G]iving [Congress] a distinct and independent power to do any act they please which may be good for the Union, would render all the preceding and subsequent enumerations of power completely useless. It would reduce the whole [Constitution] to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly, no such universal power was meant to be given them." (emphasis added) --Thomas Jefferson

Congress will act this weekend to pass the Heath Care Bill that will destroy the best medical system in the world. Fifty-five percent of Americans are opposed to the bill; three of ten doctors will leave medicine and business will have increased cost thereby not in a position to hire employees. And believe what Fred Barns writes "Health Wars Are Only the Beginning" -- ONLY, if we allow them to get away with it.

Every effort must be made to stop the passage of this bill that is being sold with questionable numbers.

Call, fax, email, now is the time to truly make your voice heard. If you have already spoken out, do it again.

Here in New York, the Conservative Party’s executive committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the Governor’s race. New York has serious financial problems and how the state survives is at the core of November’s elections. The Party has sounded the clarion call, and many people are hearing it for the first time. We have a responsibility to every person who lives in New York Stat to put forth a candidate who can lead, who has experience, and who will head the gravity of the situation. It will not be an easy decision, but the Party has a history of making difficult decisions based on what is right for all New Yorkers.

Spring arrives Saturday afternoon and every spring hope is eternal. Rest assured the Conservative Party is full of hope based on the knowledge that Americans and New Yorkers will do the right thing this weekend.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

The CBO numbers on HCR are in and they are not good for consumers. The President did not do well on Fox News. (I wonder how he will blame Bush for his poor performance....guess he really does not do well without teleprompters.)

More from the Heritage Foundation on HCR. Three out of ten doctors practicing now, would quit and 30 million more patients. Hope you don't have to be seen in a hurry.

Fred Barns writes that "The Health-Care Wars Are Only Beginning."

Global Warming is still an issue.

Violence in Mexico also.

More ways to cut spending in Albany.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Seems to us that the RNC is paying serious attention to New York politics.

Unfortunately, elected officials are not paying attention to their constituents. Their plan to ram Health Care through without regard to what the majority of Americans want is un-American!

The Heritage Foundation on HCR, again. And the Wall Street Journal.

Their Real Agenda. Free Fall! Lemming!

More misleading by the President.

If any one still has doubts about the proposed health care reform, read Grace Marie Turner on the Massachusetts plan.

Then read the wisdom of Thomas Sowell.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

The Heritage Foundation ask the question "Is now really the time to create a new $2.5 Trillion entitlement"?

What was that about mis-information, Mr. President?

We ask the question "Is this any way to pass a bill in the House"? Four NY Congressmen in the feeling the pressure.

Apparently, NY Senator Charles Schumer would like to eliminate the ability to filibuster.

One example on how to solve the "pre-existing condition."

Take notice Washington and Albany, Spending (increased debt) is the real problem.

Before you join the "Coffee Party" read this.

If anyone thinks the conservatives are not united, read this. Well said, David Keene.

Does New York City have to have an Arabic-themed public school?

This is not how New York should be written about in the Weekly Standard? Voters really need to make informed choices in the voting booth.

Voters, know what you are investing in. Did Andrew Cuomo play a part in the mortgage meltdown?

Monday, March 15, 2010

Another interesting week has arrived in the political world. A special election in Queens will be held tomorrow and there may even be a vote on Health Care Reform. You really have to see the photo that the NY Times has with its piece on HCR, can you imagine the uproar if any other paper had run a photo like that with President Bush. Will Congressmen listen to their constituents or jump to their political death?

Health Care Reform is not the only concern people have with this administration -- debt is the obvious pressing problem -- but more and more Americans are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with some appointees under the radar screen. And then there is this.

Who will replace Congressman Murtha in getting unpopular bills passed? You really have to watch this video.

Earmarks (Member Items) are a problem in New York as well as Washington.

The food police are at it again.

Sunday's New York Post Editorial is worth the read and would certainly be interesting.

Weekly Wrap-Up

The rough and tumble world of politics has been at fever pitch this week, and there is still quite some time before conventional campaigns begin in earnest.

Sen. Harry Reid, we pray that your wife and daughter have a full recovery, and know that they are being cared for by the best medical system available.

President Obama is delaying his trip to Indonesia and Australia to keep the pressure on his fellow democrats to pass his health care reform.

His message is not changing the public’s view health care reform. And apparently, it is not doing much better in Congress. Based on his poll numbers maybe he should not postpone his trip.

According to Investor’s.com, the President would not survive as a CEO if he presented his financial plan to stockholders, in fact, they state he “just might be indicted for fraud”.

The quote of the week is from Michael Goodwin’s piece, “We’re not buying it, O”, when Goodwin writes "We used to arrest people for selling snake oil. Now we elect them."

It isn’t much better in New York, where we have a Lt. Governor who expects New Yorkers to incur more debt. The New York Post Editorial reminds Mayor Bloomberg that he is at fault also. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle agrees with us that Lawmakers should not put off tough decisions. Do you agree with us that the borrowing has to end? Voice your opinion in our poll this week.

It took AG Andrew Cuomo two long weeks to make the right decision.

Bill Hammond of the Daily News says it all, when he writes, “a guy as smart as Cuomo, should have seen it coming.” Yet he waited for a 13% point drop in his approval, before he did the right thing. The question really becomes, would he have walked away if the poll numbers did not drop? The answer speaks volumes.

One positive bit of news this week, the 9th Circuit Court handed Michael Newdow a well deserved defeat.

Enjoy the weekend!

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Borrowing is not the solution, as we stated in our press release, and John Faso, George Marlin, Fredric U. Dicker and the NY Post Editorial all agree with us.

The Heritage Foundation writes how bigger government is not the solution to big government.

A lot of desperate moves trying to pass Health Care Reform, here, and here, while Speaker Pelosi struggles to get the votes.

Have your voice heard on HCR. Cal the following Congressional Members, who, according to this article, are uncommited on the Senate HCR plan. You can make a difference.

Call:

1) Bill Owens - 202 -225 - 4611 or (315) 782-3150
2) Michael Arcuri - 202 225 - 3665 or (315)793-8146
3) Scott Murphy - 202 -225 - 5614 or (518) 743-0964
4) Dan Maffei - 202 -225- 3701 or (315) 423-5657
5) Mike McMahon - 202-225-3701 or (718) 351-1062
6) John Hall - 202-225-5441 or (845) 291-4100
7) Tim Bishop 202-225- 3826 or (631) 696-6500
8) Paul Tonko - 202-225-5076 or (518) 465-0700

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Add this to New York's deficit. The NY Post is correct in the fact that borrowing certainly helped get us into the deficit morass, spending is the other culprit. Even Mayor Bloomberg thinks more borrowing is NOT the answer. Spending is the problem. In this article, Senator Antoine Thompson "proposes that the state borrow $5 billion to pay for clean water, clean air and, in the process, create green jobs. " Who is going to be here to pay the bills when due? At least Sen. Sampson seems to understand that "we cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity".

Isn't in interesting that Comptroller DiNapoli wants reform now, after he voted for how many spending programs, tax increases and unnecessary bonds to pay for his follies?

The Heritage Foundation with more on HCR. More on Nebraska's sweet deal.

Hope that people are realizing that the direction the President and Congress are taking this Country is totally wrong.

If only Thomas Sowell had run for president.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

According to this Human Events article by John Gizzi (03/05/10), Larry Kudlow, is still thinking about the possibility of a U.S. Senate run but is not planning for it just yet.

A question for Speaker Pelosi: "Isn't it the responsibility of our elected officials to know what is in the legislation they are voting on"? This quote is from a speech the Speaker gave earlier this morning “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy" (referring to the health care legislation). You can read the whole speech here. According to the Speaker, the HCR bill will create 4 million jobs! (How many at taxpayer expense?)

The Heritage Foundation weighs in again on HCR and so does Walter Williams. The GOP will have a hard time derailing HCR all the more reason for you to have your voice heard. Defeat is superior to repeal.

Doug Hoffman will run again.

Speaker Silver: the answer is to CUT SPENDING, not more borrowing!

State Police lose another "Superintendent".

Thomas Sowell writes "Stimulus or Sedative?"

Monday, March 8, 2010

The federal budget it totally out of control and they just want to spend more. If just 1 percent of what Congressman Massa says is true, November cannot come soon enough!

Will there be a special election for the 29th Congressional Seat? Or does Speaker Pelosi want it left empty? Certainly, one to watch.

New York is certainly not producing the likes of Susan B. Anthony, Benjamin Cardozza, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt, Alfred E. Smith any longer, rather we have politicians that set up questionable charities, shady non-profits, shadow kings, and total dysfunction and that is not even mentioning Congressman Rangel, Governor Paterson or various other politicians. New York's politicians need their moral compass restored.

Steve Levy is in the news here and here and has "no plans to switch parties".

E. J. McMahon writes that LG's plan may end fiscal follies. Of course, following the Five Point Plan the Conservative Party released earlier today would also end the fiscal follies!

Michael Goodwin wants the Governor to do us the favor.

Weekly Wrap-Up

New York is scandal central this week. Let’s start with the controversy that has all of America outraged: The two kids who took over air traffic control duties at JFK.

Obviously those children aren’t qualified to direct air traffic, but maybe we could put them in Congress? They obviously couldn’t be any worse than the reps we have right now.

Take Rep. Eric Massa, whose sudden and mysterious retirement has sparked plenty of questions about ethics... just what New York needs right now.

But Rep. Massa has a tough act to following Rep. Charlie Rangel, who is taking a “leave of absence” from his post as head of the Ways and Means Committee.

Here is the New York Post’s take on why this leave of absence should not be temporary...

If the air traffic control kids want a job here in New York, could they be any worse than the alleged grown-ups we have running the place? The state’s top job might be open soon, as we’re seeing more and more demands for David Paterson to step down.

Even his hand-picked Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, is jumping ship.

Gov. Paterson's ethics quagmire continues. He’s even managed to get the Yankees involved.

Also deeply involved in scandal: The Working Families Party, which according to the New York Times “now faces a barrage of accusations that it violated campaign finance laws to aid its favored candidates.”

Now Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has been one of New York’s most activist public officials ever. He’s opened countless investigations in his tenure. But he’s MIA where the Working Families Party is concerned. Do you think he can be trusted to investigate his political allies? Take our Poll and give your opinions.

Have a great weekend, and try to stay out of trouble!

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Sometimes I just cannot believe what I read, I would hope that our President just has really bad timing. Only time will tell. But when he practically demands that Health Care Reform is passed, I have to wonder if it is timing or just plain arrogance.

Congressman Paul Ryan v. the President from the Wall Street Journal on line.

Mark Cunningham in the New York Post writes the Dems risk decades in the desert.

Thomas Sowell's part III of Alice in Health Care.

John Gizzi writes about the upcoming Congressional races.

Sen. Jim Bunning (not running for re-election) explains why he took a stand.

The Washington Times has an article by Anthony Randazzo on the Fannie/Freddie morass.

Investors.com writes of the Subprime Cover-up.

And well known banking analyst, Dick Bove, told CNBC that Andrew Cuomo is the "Father of the Subprime Crisis".

It appears Con. Pete Stark is too toxic to replace Con. Charlie Rangel as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.

The Democrats in Texas must want to emulate New York politics.

Chairman Long appears on Good Day New York.

This just in:

News Alert: In health-care remarks, Obama embraces legislative tactic known as reconciliation 02:03 PM EST Wednesday, March 3, 2010
--------------------

President Obama on Wednesday endorsed the controversial legislative tactic known as reconciliation, saying his health-care overhaul deserves the same treatment as other significant legislation that has passed Congress with "nothing more than a simple majority."

"Reform has already passed the House with a majority," Obama said. " It has already passed the Senate with a supermajority of sixty votes. And now it deserves the same kind of up-or-down vote that was cast on welfare reform, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, COBRA health coverage for the unemployed, and both Bush tax cuts – all of which had to pass Congress with nothing more than a simple majority."

Under such an approach, the House would pass the health bill passed by the Senate in December. The House and the Senate would then use reconciliation to pass a set of fixes to the bill, to satisfy the demands of lawmakers in the House.

Using reconciliation rules, the fixes could not be filibustered and Senate Democrats could approve them with a simple majority vote -- a move intended to bypass a Republican caucus that remains united in its opposition to the legislation.
-------

Well isn't that a surprise! I guess the will of the American people no longer matter.

------

In other news:

The Wall Street Journal writes of "Abuse of Power" even before the President endorsed reconciliation. Senator Nelson defends the Senate Health Plan. (Of course, his state is exempt forever). Will Congress ever listen to us again?

Thomas Sowell's part II of "Alice in Health Care"

Is this Congress' next target?

If you thought $4.00 per gallon of gas was high, this article and this article will really have you wishing the presidential elections would be held this November!

Can a Fox really protect the Hen House? The President seems to think so.

New York's elections are this November and honestly, they can't come soon enough. New York's financial morass is getting worse by the day. E. J. McMahon has some wise words for the Governor.

From the Washington Times "Communities" Blog "We Think People Should Be in Control, Not Government".

From WSJ on Line's Washington Wire "Stupak: Its Not Just abortion"

From the Heritage Foundation "The Public Is Not Behind This Bill"

And the Washington Times Editorial writes about "Canada's warning against government health care"

Are you excited that the President will offer yet another Health Care Reform blueprint?

Thomas Sowell writes about "Alice in Health Care" in his weekly Townhall Column. And Investors.com gives us a bonus Thomas Sowell column "Free Market Fights Discrimination"

New Yorkers are stunned by the continuing saga in Albany. The NY Post again calls for the Governor to resign while the Governor has various meetings with many at the Executive Mansion, and has summoned all of his cabinet members to an 11:00 AM meeting in the Red Room on Wednesday according to Liz Benjamin's Blog. (Link unavailable)

One Democrat in New York is very happy today and one is grateful that the Speaker does not know how to clean her house.

Where is the pride in being a New Yorker these days? Article after article heap ridicule on the government, where were they throughout the years we called for the end of politics as usual. Some insight on Governor Davide Paterson. John Faso has a few words for the press. Andrew Cuomo is playing the press, will the press allow the shenanigans this time around?

Nancy Pelosi plays hard ball. But not with Charlie Rangle or Anthony Weiner.

More on the Health Care Bill, here, here and here.

Get ready for the next congressional battles. Fannie Mae needs more of your money. Al Queda is growning in Africa.

The NY Post is skeptical of the WFP. And wonders why Tom DiNapoli thinks he can have some things both ways.

On a positive note William Buckley lives on.
