Weekly Wrap-Up

We once again end the week on a sad note. New York lost another leader this week, with the death of former congressman and vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp. For nearly a quarter of a century, Jack was one of the most dynamic, intelligent, and inspirational voices in the conservative movement.

FOX News has an overview of his accomplishments in sports and politics:

This past September, Jack spoke for the last time at a Conservative Party event, when he represented the McCain/Palin ticket at our Presidential nominating meeting. We’ve posted the video on our Facebook page:

Now, on to this week’s news...

Looking for a silver lining to President Obama’s tax-and-spend rampage? Try this: At least the President feels the need to pretend that spending is the problem.

Not much to cling to, I know – especially when we hear the real story about the supposedly “responsible” budget presented by the Obama Administration this week.

The New York Post has a good analysis: “President Obama yesterday proposed cutting $17 billion from the federal budget -- barely one half of 1 percent.”
According to the Post, “Those savings are far exceeded by a 2 1/2-inch thick volume detailing Obama's generous increases for domestic programs. And instead of devoting the savings to defray record deficits, the White House is funneling them back into other programs.”

Even President Obama’s spending cuts show his left-wing instincts. Among programs targeted, according to The New York Daily News: Abstinence-only education (a cut heralded by New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney) and efforts to fight illegal immigration (a cut criticized by Rep. Peter King).

Here’s that story:

Also, an ominous but not surprising headline from The Washington Times: “Obama Budget Cuts Target Military Funding.”

Here are some numbers: “While defense spending accounts for 19 percent of the federal budget, it would absorb 55 percent of $17 billion in total cuts.”

Isn’t it funny how, when it comes to defending America, the liberals are overcome by frugality? Get the details here:

Looking for a silver lining in that? Here you go: Politicians and voters from both parties are staunchly opposed to huge defense cuts – and there will be a fierce resistance to any efforts to weaken America’s national defense.

You can bet the Conservative Party will be doing everything we can to mobilize New York voters against drastic defense cuts. Make sure to check in on our “Call to Action” each week here on the blog to see what you can do to help stop the liberals’ agenda.

And of course, have a great weekend.
