Weekly Wrap-Up


It is amazing that most of the mainstream media hyped Thursday’s speeches as “dueling” when Vice-President Cheney’s address to the American Enterprise Institute was scheduled well in advance of President Obama’s totally staged presentation at the National Archives. The contrast in the speeches is almost as dramatic as the contrast in the backgrounds. One of the speakers is obviously very sure of himself; you can decide for yourself which one.

The other news out of Washington, DC this week could be “Be a Deadbeat” for if you pay your credit card bill on time, the legislation will result in restoration of annual fees and the loss of cash-back rewards and other perks as the credit card companies look to recoup lost penalty revenues. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly do not encourage being a deadbeat, however this administration seems to go out of its way to reward those to do not pay their bills.

Despite $30 Billion of your tax dollars poured into General Motors already and quite possibly another $15 Billion, General Motors may be headed to the bankruptcy courts: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-gm-uaw22-2009may22,0,2716723.story the question becomes, if they are heading to bankruptcy court, why are we taxpayers giving them more money? Normally when people invest, in a company they do so because 1) they want to and 2) they expect a positive return. In this case, taxpayers are being forced to invest and there is a minuscule chance of a return.

The War on Terror is not over as evidenced by the stunning arrest this week of four homegrown terrorists. What is also stunning is that the President did not even mention it in his speech on terrorism. And he wants to close GITMO and bring the terrorists... where? Speaking of American Soil, on this Memorial Day weekend, take a moment to Salute the brave young men and women who have shed their blood defending our freedoms. We must never forget President Ronald Reagan’s words “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” God Bless America Semper Fi
