Weekly Wrapup

This week we started to get a better idea of what President Barack Obama means when he talks about “change.”

First up: The closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention center that has served as a vital tool in the war against terrorism. Is it a coincidence that with some of the most hardened terrorists locked away and under interrogation, America was NOT hit with another attack here at home after 9/11? I would say no – but then I don’t share the liberals’ endless compassion for terrorism suspects.

Closing Guantanamo is change the terrorists can believe in – but what does it mean for the American people? One group is not happy: The families of those killed on 9/11. Here’s some much needed common sense from someone who has truly felt the pain that terrorists can cause...

“To me it’s beyond comprehension that they would take the side of the terrorists,” said Peter Gadiel, whose son, James, was killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11.
“Many of these people have been released and been right back killing, right back at their terrorist work again.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is liberal hypocrisy. Kathleen Sebelius, the Democratic governor of Kansas, is a supporter of President Obama’s decision to shut down Guantanamo... as long as the poor, innocent souls we’re holding there aren’t brought to her home state...

Another change we’re seeing is Big Labor’s increased power now that union money – i.e. forced union dues from America’s workers – helped put a liberal in the White House...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090130/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_labor

“President Barack Obama is playing to one of the Democratic Party's most reliable constituencies — organized labor — reversing a number of his predecessor's executive orders that critics regard as anti-union.”

This is only the beginning. The real fight against Big Labor will start when the union bosses begin pushing for “card check” legislation that would take away the secret ballot in union elections and let labor organizers pressure workers into joining unions.

Here’s a good overview from The Heritage Foundation on what “card check” means, and why it’s wrong...

Want more proof that President Obama’s talk about change was just that – talk? Look no further than Eric Holder, the President’s choice for Attorney General. Here’s a great article from The American Spectator that shows how the Holder nomination is a deliberate slap in the face to conservatives...

More “change” from Obama... as in, more of your tax dollars will be used to fund abortions. This editorial from The Washington Times has the details...

“... on late Friday afternoon, in as quiet a manner as possible, the president repealed the ban on U.S. funding for foreign family planning aid groups that offer abortion services. This means that American tax dollars can now be used to provide abortions around the world; America is back in business as Doctor Death to millions of the world's babies."

It seems to me that babies are the only “special interest group” the liberals are NOT pandering to. Take Nancy Pelosi, and her idea of “stimulus” – $200 million for birth control. I’ll let the Speaker of the House explain this one herself...

“Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”

Here’s the transcript of the entire interview...

Here’s another Pelosi quote that jumped out at me...

“What the economists have told us from right to left. There is more bang for the buck, a term they use, by investing in food stamps and in unemployment insurance than in any tax cut.”

Can anyone tell me which economist from the right told Speaker Pelosi that investing in food stamps is better than tax cuts? I don’t believe that for a minute.

Here’s one thing that won’t change: You can always count on The Conservative Party to lead “the good fight” and speak out against the liberals’ policies. For the latest on what the liberals are up to – and how we’re working to stop them – stay tuned to “The Good Fight” blog, and visit our website

Have a great weekend!
