Weekly Wrap-Up

The predominate news this week has centered on the BP Oil leak devastating the Gulf Coast and highlighting the Presidents lack of leadership . It took him 52 days to meet with the families of the 11 men killed in the explosion, his golf games and music celebrations ere obviously more important.

The meeting with experts to find out who to blame is contrary to what the President told graduating students ...but why should that surprise any of us, as he used “double-speak” to get elected.

Investor’s Business Daily hits the target with this “It isn't often that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says something right, but when he calls the latest round of economic sanctions from the United Nations Security Council "the same as pesky flies," he's hit the target like one of his Sejil surface-to-surface missiles.” Charles Krauthammer agrees.

Our debt continues along the path of Greece according to all reports and expressed by Congressman Eric Cantor recently.

New York’s budget is not resolved and apparently, the Democrats who are in total control of New York State are looking to borrow again! The deficit is real and spending must be cut across the board. Even if the national economy turns around (which is not likely to happen soon) New York will not be able to recover if its spending is not severely curtailed, so New York’s Legislators must make the necessary cuts now. A temporary shutdown is being discussed but without permanent spending cuts, New York will face far more that a temporary shutdown.

New York’s budget is not the only controversy this week. The Empire State Building is refusing to honor Mother Teresa’s 100 birthday on August 26. They also refused to honor the Marine Corps in 2008. Do they realize that their freedom to do so is a result of the sacrifices made by untold numbers of Marines. With so many serious problems in this world, doesn't it make sense to honor those who have made our lives better? Certainly the Marines have and Mother Teresa, in her devotion to the poor, the sick and the dying made the world more aware of the need for care for those less fortunate. A lesson that has faded somewhat since her passing and could be rekindled with the Empire State Building changing its mind.

Have a great weekend.
