Big news this week in New York...
At our Conservative Party 2009 Fall Reception, Doug Hoffman picked two more endorsements – from Gov. George Pataki, and from Ambassador John R. Bolton, who also received our Charles Edison Memorial Award at the packed event.
Here’s a YouTube video of Gov. Pataki’s endorsement:

Here’s some coverage of the Pataki endorsement:
From The Washington Times: http://tinyurl.com/yhp6bfp
From CNN: http://tinyurl.com/yj53tqh
From the New York Daily News: http://tinyurl.com/yhn5k8q
From Politico (a Capitol Hill paper): http://tinyurl.com/yf6pjcm
These two endorsements come on the heels of many more earned by Hoffman this week – and all of these endorsements are in addition to new evidence that GOP leaders are “seeing the light and going conservative.”

In other news from the 23rd, Bill Owens picked up that most coveted of endorsements – a seal of approval from Gov. David Paterson. Trick or treat, Mr. Owens might ask. We’ll find out:

Big news (literally!) this week in Washington...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled the enormous House health care bill that, according to Politico, “runs more pages than War and Peace [and] has nearly five times as many words as the Torah.” This new bill is a whopping 1,990 pages, with about 400,000 words. “With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion,” the folks at Politico note, “that comes out to about $2.24 million per word.”

And even that may be a conservative estimate, so to speak. According to this report, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) tags the total cost of the bill as over $1 trillion before the Democrats throw in some accounting gimmicks to drive the cost down to “only” $894 billion.

And according to the CBO, any cost estimate of this bloated bill is “subject to substantial uncertainty.”
Here’s what is certain: This health care “reform” initiative is a terrible idea that must be stopped. We need people in Congress that will vote against this monstrosity. Hopefully Tuesday voters in the 23rd Congressional District will elect Doug Hoffman and send some much-needed common sense and responsibility down to Washington.
Next week will be a busy and exciting one – that’s also for certain. Stay tuned here for the latest news and info. And have a great weekend!
