Weekly Wrap-Up

Let’s end this week with a hearty “Thank You!” to President George W. Bush.

He kept us safe after 9/11. He cut taxes and let us keep more of our own money. He made tough decisions that were right for America – and he never let polls or politics corrupt his thinking. He’s a good man, and I hope he will be remembered as a great President.

President Bush deserves special thanks for doing the right thing for unfairly imprisoned border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean...

These two men got swept up in the drug wars that have turned our borders into a war zone. And what thanks did they get? They were punished – harshly – for doing their jobs in apprehending a drug smuggler and protecting themselves in the process.

Here in New York, the big news was the Senate seat. Gov. Paterson’s pick has caused a firestorm:

We wish Kirsten Gillibrand the best as she makes an unexpected move to the Senate. Is she really as “conservative” as people say? The Conservative Party will be watching. Here’s an interview she did just recently. She talks about bailouts and gay marriage, among other things...

Whatever you think about Kirsten Gillibrand, there’s no question that Gov. Paterson showed poor leadership. He turned a serious decision into a spectacle. Here’s Jacob Gershwin, writing in the New York Post...

“AS THE ashes of Caroline Kennedy's brief foray into politics are shoveled away, New Yorkers are left with a sad irony: Battling corruption charges and staring down certain impeachment, Gov. Rod Blagojevich did a better job of picking a US senator than did David Paterson.”

Oh the shame, as the Post headline puts it. After this display of indecisiveness, can we really trust Gov. Paterson to make the tough choices and balance the New York budget?

We’ll find out in the coming weeks – and we’ll also be seeing a political free-for-all as Republicans and Democrats scramble to take Sen. Gillibrand’s House seat.

Let’s hope that Republicans in Washington put up a good fight against two of President Obama’s most controversial nominees: Eric Holder, the President’s pick for Attorney General whose dealings in the Clinton Administration are well documented...

... and Treasury nominee Timothy Geithner, whose half-hearted “I’m sorry” for failure to pay taxes should not earn him a free pass from the U.S. Senate.

Stay tuned to the Good Fight all next week for the latest news, and the Conservative Party’s take on what’s happening. Have a great weekend!

  1. How about sending them to San Francisco...they love everybody there...with the exception of our military, of course.
