Weekly Wrap-up

There’s plenty of outrage in Washington over the BP oil spill disaster, but unfortunately that’s not the only thing New Yorkers and all Americans have to be outraged about this week.

First, about that oil spill... Rahm Emanuel’s strategy – “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste” – is in full effect, with the Obama Administration seeking to exploit this very serious crisis as a way to impose a global warming cap-and-trade scheme.

In the New York Post, Ben Lieberman of The Heritage Foundation explains that this is nothing more than “a huge energy tax that will raise the cost of gasoline and electricity high enough so that we’re forced to use less.”

If you ask me, imposing any kind of “cap-and-trade” energy tax will do more long-term damage to our entire nation than even this terrible oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. What do you think? Give your opinion in our new Weekly Poll.

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton announced during an overseas trip that the Obama Administration will sue Arizona for trying to rein in illegal immigration. Unbelievable – well, actually, all too believable, I hate to say.

The sad state of New York’s finances is enough to make any taxpayer furious...

... and according to Americans for Tax Reform, Gov. Paterson is not letting this crisis go to waste.

But at least the trial lawyers are making out okay, right?

And in addition to fiscal madness, New York is also faced with “reefer madness,” thanks to the sham “medicinal marijuana” campaign that is really a crusade to legalize ALL marijuana.

Of course, the fiscal irresponsibility in Washington is appalling too.

But at least Sen. Chris Dodd’s well-connected friends are being taken care of, right?

It seems there was enough outrage over the NRA betrayal on campaign finance “reform” and free speech to put the brakes on the bill – at least for now...

Have a great weekend!

  1. My name is Joseph Bassage.

I am writing you regarding a Conservative candidate for NY-29 Congressional District in Central/Western New York; her name is Janice Volk of Cuba, NY. Ms. Volk is attempting to go against Tom Reed in the Republican Primary this September. While Mr. Reed does have name recognition, he does not accurately represent the Conservative Party nor does he accurately represent the voters of NY-29. Ms. Volk is much more aligned with Conservative values and is a better choice for Conservative voters. I am asking you, as a party, to take a hard look at Ms. Volk vs. Mr. Reed for NY-29 endorsement.

Here are some examples of how Mr. Reed does NOT align with the Conservative Party:

    • Mr. Reed has made a living as a Collections Attorney. He has sued district residents for delinquent medical bills.

    • Mr. Reed purchased the Masonic Temple in Bath, NY for $29,000 and then took $1.18 million in TAXPAYER money to restore the building!

    • While Mayor of Corning, NY, Mr. Reed traveled to Washington, D.C. and Chicago for typical Republican machine events to raise masses about of money - basically quitting as Corning, NY Mayor half way through his mandate.

    • Prior to his tenure as Corning, NY Mayor, Mr. Reed vowed not to raise taxes. However, during his tenure as Corning, NY Mayor, Mr. Reed RAISED taxes on city residents numerous times!

    • Prior to running for Congress, Mr. Reed wrote former Congressman Eric Massa and the federal government for Obama Stimulus monies.

These are just a few examples on how Mr. Reed’s actions to do align with the Conservative Party. If elected, Mr. Reed is going to be a typical candidate that is going to act in his best interests over the interests of the constituents of NY-29.
