Weekly Wrap-Up

This week all eyes are on England and the Royal Wedding...

... which gives us an interesting opportunity to think about why marriage matters.

Here in New York I joined Inside City Hall this week to talk about the importance of protecting traditional marriage.

This week Shaun Marie has blogged about Big Labor’s newest attack on freedom – this time against Boeing and its right to choose where to locate factories. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley writes a powerful op-ed for The Wall Street Journal and calls out President Obama on his (big surprise here) lack of leadership in standing up for American businesses.

As Gov. Haley notes, “The nation deserves an explanation as to why the president's appointees are doing the machinist union’s dirty work on the backs of the businesses and workers...”

What do you think? Do you support the unions’ efforts to force Boeing to locate this factory in a heavily unionized state? Or do you agree with the “right to work” concept that the unions hate? Give your view in our new Weekly Poll.

Honestly, can we trust the Obama Administration to make any decision about anything these days? As The Washington Times points out, “Obamanomics has failed.”

Looks like the Senate will vote on the Obama budget (since Chuck Schumer and the Democrats haven’t bothered to pass a budget of their own) as well as the Ryan plan to end Obamanomics and get our economy going.

The Weekly Standard takes a look at the GOP field and finds reasons for the Democrats to worry (which some background on why early polls are mostly best ignored, and how there’s no such thing as a “perfect” candidate).

Personally I would be worried if Republicans had immediately settled on one candidate this early in the game. Giving plenty of thought to the question of who might lead our nation is the right thing to do.

Have a great weekend!

The right solution.

If you want a bagel, bring your own knife. And we wonder why people don't want to open a business in New York.

Average school taxes due to increase (if voter approved) by 3.4%, all the more reason to enact the property tax cap at 2%.

Do we really want to be #1 in this?

Why are legislators unwilling to pass this? If they don't want to be responsible for passing the pending legislation, let them propose a constitutional amendment for the people to decided.

One would believe that rural upstate New York would have the highest Medicaid billing in the state, but this article identifies Rego Park -- a rather wealthy section of Queens -- as the area that bills Medicaid the most. The question is why Rego Park? In New York the cost per person for Medicaid is a whopping $2,903 compared to the rest to the US where it averages $1,364.

Weekly Wrap-up

The Weekly Wrap-up is a day early this week. Tomorrow we’ll be observing Good Friday – not “The Hippie Holiday,” as The Washington Times aptly calls tomorrow’s Earth Day celebration.

The Environmental Protection Agency actually sees churches as the next big market for global warming propaganda.

(Note, too, that this initiative actually began during President George W. Bush’s years in office – which just goes to show this: As important as the 2012 presidential campaign is, there are deep-rooted problems in the way our government operates that won’t be fixed with just one election.)

The Heritage Foundation explains why now is the time to make cuts in the Department of Energy’s monstrous and growing budget.

This should come as news to no one: Gas prices continue to rise, with New York home to some of the highest prices.

Remember when Barack Obama called on Americans to just “adapt” to higher oil prices?

And don’t forget that Obama’s Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, has welcomed higher gas prices, and not too long ago told The Wall Street Journal, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

Chuck Schumer weighed in last week, saying we should tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve that’s for use in emergencies only (a problematic idea, to say the least) – and that we should all just go out and buy more fuel-efficient cars.

What do you think are the best plans for dealing with current gas prices? Do you agree with the Obama Administration that we should just adapt, and send prices higher? Or, do you want to see more oil production here at home? Vote for the solutions you support in our new Weekly Poll.

And have a great weekend!

Common sense won yesterday thanks to the out cry from concerned citizens, the NYS Dept. of Health, is rethinking its declaration that wiffle ball is dangerous.

Why are spending cuts so hard?

Ronald Reagan once said "Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty" and A Supreme Court case to follow and why it is important to stay the course sans new regulations.

Brace yourselves, taxpayers are about to take another big loss. To break even the stock should sell at $53, but the government is in a hurry to let it go at $30. And we wonder why we carry a $14.3 trillion debt??

Larry Kudlow on the market.

The only thing that surprises me about this article is the newspaper that is reporting it.

Nothing surprising here, the WFP continues to be a political disgrace!

Bill Hammond stresses the need for mandate relief.

Along with much needed mandate relief, can we please get rid of the nanny state mentality that is destroying common sense. We ask why are our children becoming obese....well here is a good part of the problem. Enough of this nonsense...kids can't play kid games, they get scolded for playing video games, no one can win in little league because some one may have hurt feelings...chocolate milk can't be served in schools anymore....just one question to the people who are making these decisions....obviously you survived your childhood playing these popular games, drinking chocolate milk, winning and losing little league games, I just want to know HOW and what gives you the right to change the rules now?

Perhaps part of the problem is our leaders...with all of the serious problems facing Americans, the two US Senators from New York think this is an issue to be discussed and voted on. We are borrowing $58,000 a minute, Social Security and Medicaid are almost bankrupt, but Chuck and Gillie want to expand the COOL Act, yup our Senators are certainly looking out for us.

The American Dream is in jeopardy. Credit future bleak due to our national debt but just maybe it will force an honest discussion on our out of control debt limit.

Rich Lowry has more insight on Obamacare.

Judge Vaughn Walker, was his decision unbiased?

New York's Attorney General Schneiderman hasn't a clue on the issue of hydrofracking and is just abusing the power of his office to appease the environmental activists. As we discussed in our support memo for hydrofracking, the process has been in effect for 100 years and the last 40 years has been spent improving the process.

Thomas Sowell on bullying.

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of a staunch conservative, William A. Rusher.
RIP, Mr. Rusher, you will be sorely missed.

This being "tax day" you should be aware that tax compliance has more employees than Wal-Mart, UPS, McDonalds, IBM and Citigroup combined! Isn't that enough for you to know to understand why it is time to simplify the tax code?

The WSJ on Obama's bogus plan to tax "only" the rich.

Speaking of taxes, why did President Obama take these deductions if he thinks he doesn't pay enough in taxes?

According to the Saudis, there is an oversupply of oil. Must be why our President thinks we should not be drilling for the oil we have in our own land and in our Gulf.

More bad news: Standard and Poor's cuts outlook to negative.

Daniel Henninger on Who Do You Trust?

One thing is certain, you can trust U. S. Senator Tom Coburn, MD (R-OK). Listen to his response to the the President this week and plan on attending our 49th Annual Dinner on June 1, 2011 at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in NYC. We want to take this opportunity to let Sen. Coburn know that New York has right thinking voters who agree with his positions and stand with him to bring fiscal sanity back to the federal government.

Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Tax Day! (Though this year the deadline is technically not until Monday, due to a D.C. holiday.)

Our Demagogue-In-Chief” celebrated this week by calling for – you guessed it – higher taxes. For America’s sake, I just hope the first line of Mr. Kuhner’s column turns out to be correct.

And of course Chuck Schumer is the first to jump aboard the Obama tax train.

“I thought he hit it out of the park,” Chuck Schumer tells Piers Morgan. “The president laid out a vision for America that just about every American can accept.” I think that’s a bit extreme, wouldn’t you say?

Oh well, Schumer was on the Piers Morgan show on CNN so it’s not like anybody was watching.

The Heritage Foundation has already established the dreadful impact of the Obama tax-hike agenda. Heritage points out, “Far from raising taxes only on the “rich,” the widespread effects of the Obama plan will hurt Americans at every income level.”

Heritage even breaks it down to the state level – so here you can see how Obama’s tax increases will hurt New York.

Here’s our Conservative Party principle: Spending is the problem, tax increases are NOT the solution. The Wall Street Journal has analysis to back that up.

Wherever you stand on this issue, take a stand today: Do you agree with Obama and Chuck Schumer that taxes just aren’t high enough? Or do you agree with the Conservative Party that tax hikes are NOT the answer? Give your opinion in our new Weekly Poll.

For anyone who agrees with the Obama/Schumer liberals, please pay attention to Paul Ryan. Here, for those who just don’t get it, he once again patiently and compellingly explains the fiscal crisis facing America and what we can do about it.

Ryan is joined by Charles Krauthammer – the man you want on your side for an important debate on our nation’s future...

Krauthammer had already weighed in on Obama’s speech, and he pulls no punches. He describes the President’s speech as a “disgrace” – and I think that’s shaping up to be the best word to describe the Obama Administration.

Have a great weekend!

We were snoozing right along with the Vice President. Obama's new deficit promises -- he wants to tax the rich and the working families. His speech lacked fiscal specifics, he said nothing about job creation, and he ripped the republican plan. The President continues class warfare by calling for increased taxes. There's no cavalry coming to pay our bills! Too much spending and too little growth is a recipe for an economic explosion. Read about it in Larry Kudlow's Commentary.

Monday, April 11, 2011

Democrats pathetic slaps at Ryan reforms. Ryan's proposal is the real show, Pelosi's tweets are nonsense. Cuomo and Christie at odds over medicaid. To avert a government shutdown in D.C., budget deal includes a provision banning the District from spending its own funds to provide abortions as well as funding to continue a school voucher program. Weekly Wrap-Up

With a government shutdown looming, President Obama is planning what he’s best at – taking a vacation...

Maybe while he’s in Colonial Williamsburg President Obama could learn a little something about this...

The Washington Times offers a Government Shutdown Survival Guide.

And Rep. Thad McCotter of Michigan puts the matter in focus: “The Democrats support shutting down the government for more spending. Republicans support keeping open the government with less spending.”

The Heritage Foundation explains how Commander-in-Chief Obama has turned his back on America’s military, rejecting support for our men and women in uniform as a “distraction.”

Chuck Schumer also opposes short-term funding bill... but who knows why?

Here’s a link to Sen. Gillibrand’s brave stand on the issue:

Seriously, good luck finding any word from our junior Senator on the need to protect our troops’ pay.

Senators Sessions and Thune explain the sensible stop-gap measure...

What do you think? Do you agree with the Conservative Party that Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand should put the needs of our military ahead of Big Government and Democratic Party politics? Vote today in our new Weekly Poll.

Charles Krauthammer takes a look at the Ryan prosperity budget and specifically the false claims about Ryan’s Medicare proposals.

And what do the Schumer Democrats have in mind for saving Medicare? Again, who knows?

The Wall Street Journal has the details, or lack thereof: “Democrats are working on their own plan for Medicare reform, said Mr. Schumer, who was mum on the details.”

Imagine that – a question that puts Chuck Schumer’s mouth in shutdown mode.

Liberals and radical “green” activists want to shut down hydrofracking as a way to boost New York’s economy, create jobs and access important supplies of natural gas. The Conservative Party is weighing in on the benefits of hydrofracking.

Have a great weekend!
