Weekly Wrap-Up

Big news this week in New York...

At our Conservative Party 2009 Fall Reception, Doug Hoffman picked two more endorsements – from Gov. George Pataki, and from Ambassador John R. Bolton, who also received our Charles Edison Memorial Award at the packed event.

Here’s a YouTube video of Gov. Pataki’s endorsement:
http://tinyurl.com/yjd3dqp

Here’s some coverage of the Pataki endorsement:

From The Washington Times:
http://tinyurl.com/yhp6bfp

From CNN:
http://tinyurl.com/yj53tqh

From the New York Daily News:
http://tinyurl.com/yhn5k8q

From Politico (a Capitol Hill paper):
http://tinyurl.com/yf6pjcm

These two endorsements come on the heels of many more earned by Hoffman this week – and all of these endorsements are in addition to new evidence that GOP leaders are “seeing the light and going conservative.”

http://tinyurl.com/yf3cbvr

In other news from the 23rd, Bill Owens picked up that most coveted of endorsements – a seal of approval from Gov. David Paterson. Trick or treat, Mr. Owens might ask. We’ll find out:

http://tinyurl.com/yzy5zvq

Big news (literally!) this week in Washington...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled the enormous House health care bill that, according to Politico, “runs more pages than War and Peace [and] has nearly five times as many words as the Torah.” This new bill is a whopping 1,990 pages, with about 400,000 words. “With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion,” the folks at Politico note, “that comes out to about $2.24 million per word.”

http://tinyurl.com/yg5a3yw

And even that may be a conservative estimate, so to speak. According to this report, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) tags the total cost of the bill as over $1 trillion before the Democrats throw in some accounting gimmicks to drive the cost down to “only” $894 billion.

http://tinyurl.com/yl3lyj2

And according to the CBO, any cost estimate of this bloated bill is “subject to substantial uncertainty.”

Here’s what is certain: This health care “reform” initiative is a terrible idea that must be stopped. We need people in Congress that will vote against this monstrosity. Hopefully Tuesday voters in the 23rd Congressional District will elect Doug Hoffman and send some much-needed common sense and responsibility down to Washington.

Next week will be a busy and exciting one – that’s also for certain. Stay tuned here for the latest news and info. And have a great weekend!

Five days left and the excitement is truly building for a Hoffman WIN in the 23rd CD http://tinyurl.com/ylqf98k and http://tinyurl.com/yjpzeg7 Just heard from Facebook link that Plattsburgh's Breakfast Event was fantastic and "Doug made an effective presentation concerning the taxpayer and business friendly policies he will promote as a Congressman and answered questions honestly and responsively, to frequent applause."

Check out the latest at www.doughoffmanforcongress.com Be a part of history!

From James Tarento (http://tinyurl.com/yksct64 ) WSJ on line "the DCCC has written off Scozzafava and now sees this as a two-man race between Hoffman and Owens. If the view we have imputed to the committee is correct, there's a very good chance Hoffman will pull off a victory."

Add Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) to the ever growing list of Congressman who have endorsed Doug Hoffman! Hoffman is sprinting to the finish line and the campaign offices are as busy as can be. If you can offer some time to help out, it would be most appreciated. Less than one week to go and the reality is Doug CAN win! You know he is ahead when the desperate left starts running ads like this: http://tinyurl.com/yhao7av Even the New York Times writes about the race: http://tinyurl.com/yfj2ts6 and Fred Dicker of the NY Post follows up on yesterday's Editorial endorsement: http://tinyurl.com/yhchv7f Stop by his website www.doughoffmanforcongress.com to keep up to date and assist any way you can. New York's financial crisis is getting worse (http://tinyurl.com/yhv4hak ) as people move out of state and tighten their own finances. Weekly Wrap-Up

The major news of this week in conservative circles continues to be the 23rd Congressional race. Just breaking is the former Republican Presidential candidate Steve Forbes endorsement of Doug Hoffman and former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin’s endorsement: http://tinyurl.com/yhaae4w

It certainly has been a good week for the Hoffman campaign, national radio shows, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck mentions of the race on Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh with even more to come. Dick Armey flew in to offer his support as Doug introduced his Flat Tax proposal. http://www.doughoffmanforcongress.com/ Only 11 days left, but what an 11 days it will be. The energy has not waned in the least; in fact, there is so much energy the Obama Administration is looking for a way harness it to get its ill-fated health care bill through congress. We are seriously on the verge of making history in the 23rd Congressional District and we appreciate any support you can give at this time.

The Democratic candidate was hoping for more than this from President Obama: http://tinyurl.com/yjfahxq , I’m guessing he (the candidate) understands how many who voted for him feel--disappointed!

It is a good thing President Obama does not read the UK’s Telegraph http://tinyurl.com/ygjkybk or he would be trying to “black list” them as he is trying to do to Fox News http://tinyurl.com/yls6mdt which may be having a slight push back from other major news stations. Apparently, some habits are hard to die: http://tinyurl.com/yhydjv6

Could all the truth being exposed be the reason why new regulations are being considered at the FCC? Rush Limbaugh http://tinyurl.com/ygy9aor has an excellent analysis of former VP Cheney’s speech at the 20th Anniversary Dinner of the Center for Security Policy on Wednesday evening, in case you missed it.

Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., should be commended for his fight to keep federal tax dollars from being used for abortions. http://tinyurl.com/yzy7duz

Every time the federal government runs a program, fraud is a major issue http://tinyurl.com/yglgbwn and here http://tinyurl.com/yf82g59 which is all the more reason that government run health care is a very bad idea. Instead of rushing to take over health care, it should be seeking to eliminate the massive fraud in its current programs. http://tinyurl.com/yl3n2dp In case you need a refresher course in all of the different plans on the table for health care reform, the Wall Street Journal has a recap of their articles here: http://tinyurl.com/yef879a

On the statewide front, Governor David Paterson is still trying to pass the same-sex marriage bill http://tinyurl.com/yf82g59 while trying to resolve a budget deficit. Most New Yorkers are far more concerned about the burgeoning budget deficits and lack of good paying jobs, and want a leader to address these issues that have a direct impact on their everyday lives. The tax burden continues to drive our citizens out of the state and there is no end in sight. Revenue from all the “ordinary resources” are evaporating faster than rain in the Sahara Desert and instead of doing what is right for the citizens, the Governor and Legislature resorts to gimmicks to raise money http://tinyurl.com/ylsytua and this http://tinyurl.com/yfqfmub

With only 11 days left in the Hoffman race, I am going to put my energy into electing a candidate who truly reflects what our values are and who will do what is right for all New Yorkers. Call the campaign at 518-897-1003 to find out what you can do to help.

It seems that a certain republican chairman is having second thoughts about his candidate http://tinyurl.com/yfr6pmo He blames the Conservative Party for their mistake and makes the statement that we are acting as the spoiler yet acknowledges that there was a "breach of trust in the nominating process", but adamantly refused to call for Scozzafava to withdraw from the race.
“ That would just be affirming Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long’s position."

Well Mr. Joseph, it is the grassroots movement that is making this a race. The people are the ones affirming that we made the right choice! Perhaps you should listen to the constituents and learn!

Weekly Wrap Up

Did you hear about the woman in Ohio who entered a clothing store, announced she’d won the lottery and promised to pay for everyone’s purchases? When customers realized this was too good to be true, a riot broke out.

http://tinyurl.com/yhjxxs7

This lady will probably be in jail for perpetrating this hoax, but is that really fair? Think about it: She claimed that money is no object... she promised the world for free... she was exposed as a liar. Sounds like she belongs in Congress. She’d fit right in.

And as it happens, the politicians in Washington have offered us plenty of hoaxes and too-good-to-be-true spectacles this week.

New York’s senators have been beside themselves trying to convince us that the liberals’ health care “reform” won’t bust the budget. Talk about a hoax. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has let it slip that the true cost of ObamaCare will be something like $2 trillion.

http://tinyurl.com/yholg6j

And where else but Washington do people who think saving $54 billion a year is no big deal?

I wish that was the only hoax being orchestrated by the health care crusaders.

Truth is, health care “reform” is in fact a costly expansion of the welfare state. According to The Heritage Foundation, of the 29 million people being promised new insurance coverage, “almost half (14 million) will get their coverage through... welfare programs.”

In other words, Heritage reports, “for half of those Americans who are being promised health reform, they are going to be stunned to find themselves in a welfare office applying for Medicaid.” Get all the details here:
http://tinyurl.com/yk3y7ua

We saw this week that when you hear about Congress “supporting the troops” and spending America’s defense dollars, there’s a good chance that the joke is on us.

The Washington Times reports, “Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.”

http://tinyurl.com/yl43362

Among these pork barrel “earmarks” – “$20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.” I’m sure that will come in handy for the troops.

Here at home, Gov. Paterson is actually taking a stand for fiscal restraint and less spending. The next couple of weeks will tell how sincere he really is – and how much the politicians in Albany will go along with his plans.

http://tinyurl.com/yjmkgbf

What do you think? Is this an honest effort or just a joke? Cast your vote in this week’s poll.

To find the greatest hoax going on right now in New York, we travel to the 23rd Congressional District. The Republican establishment must have been joking when they selected Dede Scozzafava as their candidate. More and more voters are thinking it’s not so funny...

http://tinyurl.com/ykbkxf5

According to analysis of this latest poll, “Hoffman, picking up seven points, has narrowed the gap between first and third place significantly. With just 10 points separating the three candidates, this is likely to be a very tight – and fiercely fought – campaign right through Election Day, now less than three weeks away.”

More good news: “While voters give a small edge to Owens on virtually all of the issues, it is particularly interesting to note that it is Hoffman who has picked up the most support on every issue over the last two weeks.”

The Conservative Party and principled Republicans will be working hard over the next three weeks to introduce more voters to Doug Hoffman, and show why he is the best choice to represent this district. This race is no laughing matter.

Have a great weekend.

If you don't think this is an important, WINNABLE race read this from the American Spectator

By on 10.8.09 @ 6:10AM
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) lashed out at conservative Republican colleagues during a meeting on Capitol Hill Wednesday when asked why the NRCC chose to back liberal, ACORN supported candidate Dede Scozzafava, in the upcoming special election to succeed Rep. John McHugh in New York's 23rd Congressional District
Sessions was called out by conservative members of the caucus, and challenged when asked why NRCC resources -- cash and personnel -- were being used for Scozzafava. "We have a conservative running in this race, and the Republican Party is not with him," says a conservative House member who attended the meeting. "There are a number of us who are profoundly embarrassed by this race, and while we don't blame Pete, we do blame the NRCC staff for apparently not doing its job."
Sessions, according to sources, angrily responded to the criticism, though not directly defending Scozzafava. According to NRCC staff, Scozzafava was viewed as the "most cooperative" candidate of a group put forward by local Republican Party bosses in the 23rd District. "She wasn't going to be a loose cannon and the money was happy with her," says one NRCC source, saying that "money" referred to a pool of high-dollar donors with ties to former New York Governor George Pataki. "Ideally, we wanted someone who could self-finance, but we didn't have anyone like that," says the NRCC source. "Then we went with someone who would have a natural pool of donors; [Scozzafava] met that criteria."
Scozzafava's candidacy is getting so much attention because a conservative Republican, Doug Hoffman, is now challenging her, running as the New York Conservative Party candidate in the race. Hoffman was rejected by the Republican Party of New York, which chose not to contact Conservative Party leader Michael Long for input on the pick. Such input is usually sought, to ensure that the Republican candidate will also be able to run on the Conservative Party line on the ballot.
Hoffman has already been endorsed by the Club for Growth, Gary Bauer, and former Sen. Fred Thompson. According to sources in Washington, a number of conservatives have been pressuring former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to step up and support Hoffman, both financially and with an appearance, but that Gingrich has thus far rejected those requests without an explanation. David Keene, head of the American Conservative Union was said to be calling around to various conservative organizations, encouraging them to support Hoffman and not support the NRCC in further efforts.
In New York, meanwhile, aides close to Hoffman said they were poised to make several announcements in the coming days that "will change the dynamics of the race," according to one aide. "We have conservatives across the country who really believe we can win this with the right team in place and the right kind of support, and we believe that it's all coming together."
Regardless of the outcome of the race, it appears that looking to 2010, Rep. Pete Sessions will be examining the staff of the NRCC and making changes to ensure that a Scozzafava doesn't happen again.
According to Republican National Committee sources, a poll on the 23rd District race paid for by the NRCC and due to be released on Monday has been withheld due to a poor showing by the Republican candidate. An NRCC denied that the poll was being held back, but was being reviewed for "margin of error issues."

Weekly Wrap-Up

The biggest, most important topic of the week? Getting the Olympics for Chicago in 2016. At least, that’s what seemed to be President Obama’s top priority for the week.

Does the President think they’re going to make “Giving a Prime Time Speech” an Olympic event? He’d win the gold medal, of course.

Here at the Conservative Party, we have other concerns. It’s been a busy week here at The Good Fight blog. Shaun Marie has posted plenty of articles that I hope you’ve all enjoyed. Among this week’s hottest topics...

In the campaign in the 23rd Congressional District, Doug Hoffman won plenty of important endorsements this week. Here’s a rundown:

We’re getting closer and closer to a full-fledged “debate” over health care reform, though look for any inconvenient truths from conservatives to be silenced. Here’s an article with the latest (http://tiny.cc/EPIic), including a cameo from New York’s Chuck Schumer, still peddling the “public option” Big Government health care solution though it’s been rejected time and again.

And remember how the Democrats were outraged when Rep. Joe Wilson said “You lie!” after President Obama repeated false claims about health care reform? Those same Democrats seem to be okay with one of their own comparing Republicans to Nazis and murderers:

The Democrats are in a rush on health care, but when it comes to winning in Afghanistan – and more importantly, doing what’s right for America’s troops over there – they have plenty of patience with the dithering Obama Administration... and they’re not at all eager to hear from top military officials like Gen. Stanley McChrystal: http://tiny.cc/v7sUR

I guess we’ll need a lot of patience when it comes to all the jobs that were supposed to be created by the Obama Administration’s “stimulus” bill. So far, they’re nowhere to be found:

And we’re still waiting for tax dodger Charlie Rangel to do what’s right and resign from the Ways and Means committee. Don't hold your breath on that one, but there is increasing pressure to keep him away from the tax laws he refuses to follow: http://tiny.cc/fVr6P

Running out of patience here... I’m ready for the weekend. Have a good one, and come back next week for all of the big stories.

(Oh, and about the Olympics? Sorry, Mr. President: Seems the Olympic Committee likes Chicago about as much as the American people like your health care agenda:
